The Waltz, First Dance Music

Dear Reader,

Thank you so much for your question about selecting a first dance song for the waltz. This is a bit of a tricky, but I'll try to keep my answer as brief and direct as possible. We've moved! Please finish reading this post at: Ariel Yve Design

Reader's Question:

We are looking to do the Waltz as our first dance, any songs you can recommend?
Ariel Yve's Answer:

The Waltz requires a song with a strong three count beat. Here are a few songs that should work beautifully for a Waltz:

Open Arms by Journey
You Light Up My Life by Whitney Houston
When I Need You by Seal
Fascination by Nat "King" Cole
Caribbean Blue by Enya
Can't Help Falling in Love by Elvis Presley
I'm With You by Avril Lavigne

With that said, here's another thought... for my first dance with my hubby (Joey), we opted to a beautiful dance called the "Foxy," to At Last by Etta James.

Description of the Foxy according to Wedding Dance Specialists: "The Foxy is a style of dance that is a hybrid between a Waltz and a Fox Trot. It can incorporate patterns from both dance and the tempo can vary from all slow beats, all quick beats or a combination of both depending on the speed of the song. Like Waltz and Fox Trot, the Foxy travels elegantly around the perimeter of the room and incorporates twirling the lady. However, it is smoother and softer in appearance than Fox Trot and generally danced to 4/4 timing unlike Waltz."
Since the "Foxy" is a 4 count dance with slow and quick steps, you'll have greatly improved flexibility in terms of the song selections available to you.

I hope this helps!
