2010 Wrap Up (Master Bridal Consultant, Gratitude and Animals)

As 2010 draws to a close, I sit here in my cozy home thinking about how grateful I am for everything in my life.

With that said, this year was by not means easy.  For me, 2010 started off with the loss of the love of my life (Corky), and a crushed event industry due the global economic crisis.  Fewer couples are getting married and even fewer companies are having parties.  However, I believe change is the catalyst for greatness, and many great things filled my life this year.  If you're one of my Facebook fans, you probably know that I was recently named the YOUNGEST MASTER BRIDAL CONSULTANT in the WORLD!!!!!

It's all Relative...Part I

Relationships. You might ask what they have to do with a wedding blog; the answer? Everything

As an event coordination company, we sometimes find ourselves walking a delicate tightrope between keeping our clients happy and maintaining good relationships with our trusted vendors. I believe 100% in going the "extra mile" and asking our vendors if they are vegetarian, so that in the few minutes we have to grab a bite while, they don't end up with just a salad on a workday that often lasts 8 or more hours. I also trust that if vendors have very specific dietary needs, they are professional enough to bring their own snacks. We planners try very hard to balance between our own preferences (I would personally love it if there were a rule that no bar or drink station be more than 50 feet from the CENTER of the dance floor) and our clients' specific requests.

E-Session: Marcella and Sergio

As 2010 winds down, I'm starting to look forward to all of the inspiring and beautiful wedding's I get to be a part of in 2011.

The first of which will be that of Marcella and Sergio's....their over-the-top February wedding will take place in one of LA's most exquisite Churches and Ballrooms.  Marcella's colors are deep red and gold with touches of black.

Sitting Pretty, Event Chairs

One of the simplest ways to transform an event space is by changing the seating from the standard ‘wedding chairs,’ to seating that truly enhances the décor.

Some fun examples that have been catching my eye lately;

These Louis "Ghost" chairs create a perfect modern-meets-antique look and allow for endless customization with cushions, name cards - but are stunning on their own. Make sure that linens reach the floor or go all-out mod with Lucite tables and bright pops of color to really wow guests. We've moved! Please join us at: Ariel Yve Design

Wednesday Inspiration: Ralph Lauren Outdoor Entertaining

I was browsing the Internet for inspiration for  a photo shoot that I'm styling today, and came across this enchanting image.  It is a Ralph Lauren Outdoor Dinner Party.  Whether it's a stately staged estate scene, or an organic outdoorsy setting.  Ralph Lauren (and his brand stylists), always nail it on the "chic" head.

Brides Magazine and Riedel Crystal Competition

About two months ago I was invited by Brides Magazine and Riedel Crystal to take part in their national tabletop design challenge.

Riedel generously allowed me take my pick from their gorgeous collection.

Once I saw their glamorous pink champagne flutes, it was all over.  I found the perfect product that allowed me to incorporated my signature touch of pink.  With that said, I knew I it would take a lot more than pink champagne flutes to win over America's affection with fierce competition on tap like Sasha Souza and Birch Design Studio.

Beverly Hills Hotel Wedding, Hollywood Glam

There are many, many event venues throughout the world that have stolen my heart, but, there are none quite like the Beverly Hills Hotel.  The Old Hollywood vibe of this "Pink Palace" makes it the perfect location for either a hot Hollywood premier party or an ultra romantic wedding.

Recently, the Wedding Yentas featured this Hollywood Glam pink, black and white wedding that I produced at the Beverly Hills Hotel.  We've moved! Please join us at: Ariel Yve Design

How to Tip Your Wedding Vendors, 2010-2011 Guide

It's no secret that weddings cost a lot (both time and money).  Though the exact reasons for high wedding costs are complex (supply and demand, rent district, payroll, insurance costs, etc.), the vendors that you've hired, and the staff that they've hired, have put tons of hours and energy into making you day as perfect as possible.  To say thank you, it is entirely appropriate to show your gratitude with a tip.  The questions that I'm going to answer today are, which wedding vendors to tip and how much to tip them (if at all).

Four Seasons Biltmore Wedding, El Mar Ballroom

It's no secret that I love the Four Seasons Biltmore, and for Danielle and Joel's wedding, I got to combine a number of my passions.  Beautiful decor, great people and of course lots of heirloom jewelry (all of the pieces that bride wore, were REAL family pieces).  A true delight to be a part of.

Wednesday Inspiration: White Wedding Flowers for a Malibu Beach Wedding

Over the past 5-10 years, just about every color of the rainbow has been the hot look for weddings.  As of lately, I'm delighted to see a return to the classics.  Lots and lots of romantic, whites creams and ivories.  I love it!

Don't get me wrong, color is one of the most cost effective and fun ways to personalize wedding decor, but there is just something so innately charming to me about an all white wedding.

Color Trends: Navy, the New Black

I am constantly asked what the current trends are in wedding design and quite frankly, I can almost never give a complete answer.

The reason is primarily because I rarely design weddings to reflect current trends.  One of Ariel Yve Design's "Core Values" is to provide our clients with the best possible value.  In that value, I believe that it's important to design every wedding that we do to have a certain level of timeless elegance (we always aim for our clients' event designs to be relevant 30, 50, 100 years down the road).

My Quickie 4th of July Dinner Party

This past Sunday, I'd planned to work on renovation projects at my house, followed by a quiet evening at home with my hubby.

To my surprise and delight, my family's plans changed mid day on the 4th, and they were able to spend the evening at my house.  The only problem...my house was a complete construction zone.  With only 5 hours until everyone arrived, we had to jump into action...no time to think.  To avoid the shabby state of our home (drywall debris and exposed wiring), we quickly set up our summer living room rug and dining room table on our back patio.  I created a centerpiece using flowers from our garden, paired with a few items from my "chachkie" collection.  The table was set using my heirloom blue English china and stemware that we'd received as wedding gifts.

Wow, Engage!10 was amazing!

Grand Cayman is such an incredibly beautiful place and the service at the Ritz was truly second to none (the staff gives everyone a seriously awe inspiring level care and attention).

A few of the highlights from my trip included:

2)Having a conversation with Colin Cowie at night on the beach (during a brief tropical rain).
3) Spontaneously jumping into 70 degree waves after dark, with the gorgeous Inside Weddings editor, Miss Marilyn Olivera.

Anyway, I know I've been away for a bit, but I've been working on tons of cool projects lately.  One of which was a fabulous Inspiration to Reality shoot that I'd designed this past weekend.  Those of you in the industry who know me, knows that I say inspiration shoots are for those who have nothing better to do.  I still mostly stand by that statement, but this shoot was inspired by an entirely new trend that I've been wanting to share with brides....I just had to do it.  You will soon find out what this new trend is : )

Birthday TV Show Casting Opportinities

Continuing my birthday theme this week, within the past few days, I've been contacted by 3 different TV producers who are looking to cast fabulous, chic, unique, outrageous or just plain over the top parties for 3 different TV shows.

One of which is for MTV's "My Super Sweet," which will air in the UK, Dubai throughout Europe as well as a number of other countries.  Their looking to feature amazing birthday parties taking place in the US for people ranging in age from 16-24 years old.  Another one of the shows that I was contacted for was exclusively for kids birthday parties.  The final show is a show looking to cast moms with big personalities who are throwing big (non-wedding) parties of any kind for their kid(s) (any age is OK).

Happy Birthday to Me!

It's my birthday...It's my birthday...I'm going skiing...I'm gonna celebrate..hey, hey!

Ok, so clearly it is my birthday today.  I'm actually not totally hating the idea of celebrating this year.  I feel great about where I am in my life and feel completely blessed to live where I live, do what I do and be who I be (am).

Rather than sulking (as I've so famously done years 18-26), I'm going to enjoy every second of this year.  I'm going to celebrate with a spring ski trip to Mammoth with my family.  I can hardly wait!  The thought of my trip makes all of my busyness this month entirely worth while and entirely manageable.  I'm probably just deluding myself at the moment, but I feel downright relaxed working my 12-16 hour days.

Anyway, I wanted today's post to be light, so I'm going to share a handful of my favorite spring cakes:

Wednesday Inspiration: Cinco De Mayo!

Ok, so I promised that I'd announce the winner of my Dream Garden Challenge over the weekend, but the winner opted to be the gracious bride that she is, and not take the prize because she already had her veil figured out.  Soooo....that means that I get to hold another contest : )  If you have any contest ideas, I'd love to hear your thoughts.

Anyway, today is Cinco De Mayo!  In celebration of the holiday, I wanted to share this fabulously colorful rehearsal dinner created by Sunny from White Lilac Inc. (my favorite OC florist).  The last time I was in Sunny's studio, she was just getting ready to do this event.  She told me about her adventures of going down to a local Mexican market to pick up 100+ cans of beans, so she had the right vases/containers to fit her vision and how the store clerks were giving her the "stink eye."  I guess you had to be there...the way she described it was hilarious : )

Weekend Musings: Vishen Lakhiani

Ahhh, Sunday is here.  The weekend is coming to an end.  I hope that you're ready for next week to begin.

Today's post isn't about my typical frou-frou girly posts.  It is a post about the other side of my personality....a post about business, gratitude, and looking toward the future.

The inspiration for this post came from one of my Facebook friends, Vishen Lakhaini, who just shared these incredible video clips from one of his recent presentations.

Couples are finally beginning to spend again, but budgets are still definitely tight. Thankfully, with an open mind and a bit of creativity, a bride-to-be can have her cake and eat it too (figuratively speaking of course).
